Sephora downgraded me from VIB Rouge to VIB and I'm proud of myself! My journey of getting my makeup addiction under control.

<div class="md"> <p>Around this time last year I set a goal for myself that I wanted to spend a lot less on makeup. Believe me I do not judge you if you spend a lot on makeup. This is not meant to be a preachy post or to try to tell anyone to do anything. If you are looking to cut back on your makeup collection/spending on makeup, I would like to share what worked for me.</p> <p>Let me give you some background - I'm in my mid-thirties have a great career and make a nice living. Around this time last year I made a decision that I wanted to renovate my bathroom in my condo. I got some estimates and felt like I couldn't afford it. My brother (who happens to be a financial planner) made a joke that if I stopped buying makeup I could probably afford my bathroom renovation.</p> <p>I started to really dig deeper into his comment and really looked at my finances. In 2016 just at sephora I had spent over $2800. That's approximately $230/month. This didn't include Ulta, Drugstore or other purchases from places like morphe/colour pop. I realized in 2016 I spent nearly $8K at all of the above. My spending was out of control. Yes I could afford it technically, I don't have any credit card debt, but I don't have a ton of savings either and I couldn't afford my bathroom renovation which I had priced out at about $14K.</p> <p>I felt really overwhelmed and embarrassed. Here I am a 30 something year old woman holding down a great career but I'm constantly buying more and more makeup that I don't really need. I really started to think about what was causing me to really want to do this. I realized I constantly felt like I had to have the next palette or next collection that came out or I'd be missing out. I had so much makeup I had to buy a second chest of drawers for my bedroom to store it all. On January 14th last year I had it. I had too much stuff and spent way too much money.</p> <p>I spent that whole weekend going through my makeup and I had so many unused palettes that I just bought because some beauty blogger/vlogger/commercial/etc made me feel like I needed it. I put all my unused palettes and makeup in a pile limited edition or not and I sold them on poshmark (they sold pretty quickly if you are looking for a place to sell your unused makeup).</p> <p>I went through all of my makeup I no longer used and anything that was only a bit used but I just didn't want I put in a box and invited a bunch of girlfriends over for cocktails and cosmetics. I let them dig through my box of makeup and have at it (anything that wasn't sanitary to give away I threw out). Anything that wasn't taken at that party or by other friends/family members I got rid of.</p> <p>I narrowed my makeup collection down from a 6 drawer to chest to one drawer in that chest and finally down to a manageable 3-drawer plastic trolley that fits on my dressing table in my room.</p> <p>I was afraid I was going to get back into buying and end up where I started so I unsubscribed from a lot of youtubers just constantly pushing products, I unsubscribed from sephora, ulta and various other makeup brands. I removed the sephora and ulta apps on my phone.</p> <p>I knew I still loved makeup so I did allow myself a budget of $50/month to spend on makeup. My rule was if I didn't use it I could carry it over and save it. The only exception to this I allowed was if I was buying something for someone else (I bought my niece something for her birthday and my Mom something for mother's day).</p> <p>The first few months (Jan - April) weren't that hard because I still had so much makeup in my collection that I had a lot of variety. It's when I started to run low on things figuring out how to stretch my budget for makeup. I refound a lot of drugstore loves and stopped using a lot of high end products. There are some holy grail items I couldn't live with out though.</p> <p>I only went over my monthly budget twice: once when the fenty beauty collection came out and when patrick starrr's mac collection came out.</p> <p>I hit pan on many of the products I kept (which I had rarely done before). Odd question... Setting powder or similar to control scalp shine for bald dude!

<div class="md"> <p>Hi all,</p> <p>I recently took the plunge and shaved all of my hair off after fighting a losing battle with a tragic receding hairline. I love it. What I don't love so much is the shine that I get from the oil on my head. This is a fairly common issue for many guys with shaved heads and people recommend cleansing and moisturising properly as well as some other suggestions, like using milk of magnesia as a kind of primer or using talc (or non-talc containing powders) to control it. I've tried MoM and talc, but both end up leaving me looking pretty white and ghostly...</p> <p>Some guys have suggested using some sort of translucent powder but I've seen very little by way of helpful guidance on the men's forums about this and, not being an habitual makeup wearer, I'm not sure if this would be the right thing. Could I trespass upon your expertise and ask for product suggestions that might help? Is setting powder the right product? Could I apply it directly to my scalp or should I do it while my scalp is still tacky from being moisturised. A tip to help achieve makeup symmetry

<div class="md"> <p>So for us non-ambidextrous folk (which I’m guessing is most of us), it can be tough to make both sides of your face look the same. I’m right handed, and left eyebrow/left winged liner usually end up looking wonkier, or at least not the same as the right side. I’ve learned that to combat this, it helps to start your makeup on your non-dominant side, because it’ll be easier to match your dominant side to the wonky side, than it is to do your “good” side first, and then trying to match your non-dominant side to it. Beautyblender had malware on their website

<div class="md"> <p>If you haven't heard yet, Beautyblender recently had a forensic investigation determine that they had malware on their website from at least June 2017 up until recently. Layering brow products to create a more natural looking brow.

<div class="md"> <p>Hey MUA! Whenever I post a comment about layering brow products, I end up with at least a couple questions on the topic. I also don't see many people using this technique and I find it works really well for me so I thought I'd post!</p> <p>Here are my bare brows: <a href="http://ift.tt/2AIsLYy">http://ift.tt/2AIsLYy</a></p> <p>You can see that my inner ends are very sparse and the bottom of the right brow is quite bare. Unfortunately this is the result of years of overplucking and they do not seem to grow back in these areas (going on 3 years of trying...).</p> <p>Here are the products I use to fill them in everyday: <a href="http://ift.tt/2CYs0Az">http://ift.tt/2CYs0Az</a></p> <p>NYX Precision Eyebrow Pencil in Charcoal</p> <p>NYX 3D Brow in Charcoal</p> <p>MAC Brow Pencil in Spiked</p> <p>ABH Brow Gel in Granite</p> <p>The NYX Precision Brow Pencil applies the lightest out of the 4 products and I start with that one first. I map out the shape taking care to match the bottom of the right brow to the left brow. I also lightly fill in the inner ends.</p> <p>Progress pic: <a href="http://ift.tt/2AL8Nw0">http://ift.tt/2AL8Nw0</a></p> <p>Then I go in with the NYX 3D Brow to make a sharper bottom edge and then apply ABH Brow Gel. Then I use MAC Brow Pencil, the darkest applying of the 4 products, and fill in any spaces that look too light since my natural brow hairs are actually pretty dark. How do you tell if a foundation is too dark vs. the wrong undertone?

Makeup that once you bought, you weren't excited by?

I really love a few shades in Prism, but I need inspiration and to use it more. It's not a regret, but I look at it with guilt for now. Has anyone else had issues with Kat Von D's customer service?

I was charged over US$211 for no reason. They said they would refund me after shipping. It shipped on the 21st December.</p> <p>I have received a partial refund because they said there was a fee.</p> <p>And now it has come to the time that I should have had my parcel delivered and instead it has not even been given to the courier!</p> <p>I called their customer service and asked for a full refund and the response was that the amount was over what she could refund, but she would get her supervisor to contact me about a refund and that may take 3-5 business days.</p> <p><a href="http://ift.tt/2D0kN23">Screenshots here.</a></p> <p>Has anyone had issues with Kat Von D's customer service in the US as well? How many times do you reuse your Ardell lashes?

<div class="md"> <p>I recently learned how to apply falsies, & so far, Ardell wispie lashes are the only ones that suit my eyes & I can actually apply halfway decently.</p> <p>Unfortunately, since I'm a newbie, I make mistakes. It can take multiple tries to get them on evenly. I notice after 2-3 uses they shed easily, lose shape, and just look kind of ratty. So it's getting expensive lol!</p> <p>I don't apply mascara to them, I remove glue after each use, and put them back onto their container.
