Some of the most annoying issues that come with hair resolutions are that it comes in January. This time of year is not easy to weather wise, no matter where in the world you live so let’s check out some January hair issues so we can get your year started right.</p>

Weak and brittle hair is not something to mess with or ignore. If you do then the split will continue all the way up the shaft of the strand and cause ongoing hair damage. A way to get on top of this is to trim your locks your split ends off to stop your locks getting so bad again make sure you use a hair mask next time you wash your hair.</p>

Static from clothes or the environment can cause hair that would usually take to stand on end and make you look like the nutty professor, add hair breakage or baby hairs into the equation and it is chaos up there. This can happen with your <a href="http://ift.tt/2l6aejO">hair extensions</a> just a much as it can with your own hair. A great way to combat this starts with the way you dry your hair. If you towel dry don’t rub your locks with the towel, this causes excess friction. Wring your hair instead and pat your locks with your towel. If you use a hair dryer then make sure you are using the right one. An ion hairdryer is brilliant for getting rid of flyaways this can help counteract the positive charges that cause flyaways in the first place. Of course, alcohol free hairspray is brilliant. If you have an old toothbrush and spray your hairspray on the toothbrush to smooth over the flyaways. Nothing is going to stop you create your new you this January.</p>

<p>Dry hair is a major problem this January. We are indoors a lot this time of year (because of how cold it is) with all the heaters on the heat is draining the moisture from your locks. This equals frizzy bird’s nest looking hair, not fun to try and control. With excess heat around you, treat it like you are creating a style with blow dryers, straighteners, and curlers, even if you aren’t. If you don’t have hair serum or don’t use it regularly it is time to break it out. You don’t need much (especially if you have oilier hair). The biggest mistake people make is to apply serum too close to their roots. Before you apply your serum run your hands over your hair and feel where the driest part of your hair is. For me, it is midway down at the back and at the ends so check where your locks and apply.</p>

Tips for the perfect blow-dry without damaging your hair

<p>Blow drying your hair can have its toll, that is no secret. The thing is though, it looks so lovely when it is done. I must admit I try and opt for heat free options when I can because my hair likes to frizz over nothing but I have picked up some drying hacks that I want to share with you lovelies to control your manes like I have.</p>
<p> </p>
<h2><strong><u>1. Pre-dry</u></strong></h2>

<p>This may sound counter-intuitive but dry your hair before you go for the hairdryer. If you are in a rush you can use a towel but this just adds to my frizz issues so, instead, I twist and wring my hair in the shower before I get out to remove excess water and prevent dripping then wrap it in a towel to change rooms.  A little tip I have found is brilliant is to leave your hair to partially naturally dry to save your hair some damage.</p>

<h2><strong><u>2. Opt for protection</u></strong></h2>

<p>Protecting your locks is so important when it comes to heat. If you have curly hair mix it in with some hair mousse and scrunch it into your hair.</p>
<h2><strong><u>3. Lower down the heat</u></strong></h2>

<p>If you have hair that tends to frizz or you have used products with too many nasty chemicals in them. This is a must. Take 20% off your normal heat will save your locks’ life. If you have curly locks or you are struggling with flat hair buying a defuser should be the first thing on your 2018 to buy list. It allows the air to spread evenly throughout all of your hair so it doesn’t burn some of your hair and doesn’t take as long to dry. Only half dry your hair leave the rest of your drying for your styling process.</p>

<p>If you are going for to the effort or blow drying then you might as well go for glamour. I go with an old Hollywood style. Create a deep parting and you can either use a barrel brush and your hair dryer or switch to your curling iron. Use the large section of your barrel and wrap the lower half of a one inch section under and around the wand. Before letting the curl drop hold it in your had and pin it up. Repeat this for all of the sections of your hair and wait for them to cool. Once they have to spray them with hairspray before you take the pins out. If you want to leave your hair in loose curls just run your fingers through your hair this will give you a similar look as the Cliphair babe looks in this picture. If, however, you want to give it an old hollywood look lightly brush through your curls. This won’t completely undo your curls, don’t worry it just helps everything blend beautifully.</p>

<p>The final hair hack I have regarding blow drying is, don’t do it daily if you can avoid it and if you can’t make sure you deep treat your hair or hair extensions twice a week.</p>

Short Hair Updo: Braided Topknot (Jess Conte Inspired)

<p>If you’re anything like us, you’re constantly scrolling through Instagram and saving hair inspiration pictures that you promise yourself you’ll attempt one day. One of our latest faves was a picture of Jess Conte rocking a braided topknot with some shorter locks. We love how fun and flirty this look is and wanted to recreate this short hair updo ourselves.</p>

<h2>Tools Needed</h2>
<ul class="ul1">
<li class="li1"><a href="http://luxyhair.com" title="luxy hair extensions">Luxy Hair extensions</a> (optional)</li>
<li class="li1">5-6 bobby pins</li>
<li class="li1">1 clear elastic band</li>
</ul>
<h2>Step 1</h2>
<p>The key to this look is having lots of volume at the crow of your head. Even with shorter hair, opt for some <a href="http://luxyhair.com" title="luxy hair extensions">Luxy Hair extensions</a> to ensure your braid is nice and thick. Azra uses a couple of wefts from her <a href="http://ift.tt/2CwDbfA" title="off black luxy hair">220g Off Black</a> set.</p>

<h2>Step 2</h2>
<p>Section off the front section of your hair, and pull it forward. Clip in a one-clip weft at the back of the section. This will ensure the French braided detail is nice and thick.</p>

<h2>Step 3</h2>
<p>Separate the front section into three strands. Now we're going to start French braiding towards the back. Take the left strand and cross it over the middle strand. Then take the right strand and cross it over the middle strand. Add a little bit of hair on the left side.</p>
<h2>Step 4</h2>
<p>Do the exact same thing on the right side and just keep braiding until you reach the crown of your head. Secure it off with an elastic, and now you have a beautiful <a href="http://ift.tt/2D0ofr0" title="french braid how to">French braid</a> going up in your head.</p>

<h2>Step 5</h2>
<p>Grab two more one-clip wefts of Luxy Hair extensions and clip them underneath the end of your braid - right where you tied it off with an elastic.</p>

<h2>Step 6</h2>
<p>Next is the messy bun - in order to create a nice full and thick messy bun, grab the a section of hair at the back of your head and back comb it to add extra volume and texture. Twist the hair around itself to create the messy bun and secure with some bobby pins.</p>

<h2>Step 7</h2>
<p>For extra drama, add some twists along the side of the French braid. To do this, grab a small section from the front-left side of your head and twist backwards until you reach the back of you head. Tuck underneath the messy bun and secure with bobby pins. Repeat on the right side for a symmetrical look. </p>

<h2>Step 8</h2>
