The Alpha and Omega … one of God’s many names that define His ability, and also His foresight. God knows the beginning and the end of all things, including what it takes to maintain His creation, the human body. The Garden of Eden not only provided the first two humans a place to live but also the types of food they needed to keep their physical bodies fit and sound.

God makes His instructions clear in Genesis 1:29: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.“ Raw and natural foods come from living plants, which is what our “living” bodies need to thrive. As God’s medicine, a plant-based diet takes “the ultimate” proactive approach to health and well-being.

The Body’s Self-Healing Potential

The human body remains in a constant state of healing and repair, from cuts and bruises to new cell and tissue generation. The body’s potential for self-healing inevitably rests on the quality of food we eat. Raw and natural foods act as God’s medicine, supporting the body’s ability to heal and maintain optimal health. Unlike processed foods, such as sugar-laden treats and fatty meats, raw plant foods contain living enzymes and vitality, which are critical to maintaining the body on a cellular and system level. The “living” state of raw plants can be seen in how a carrot, when placed in water, will sprout roots.

A diet of “dead” food only leaves the body with less vitality to fend for itself, which becomes increasingly harder with age. When fed a consistent diet of living food, the body regains its natural self-healing potential and can fend off sickness and disease.

God’s Medicine—The Components

Raw Foods

Raw foods include any and all garden-grown fruits and vegetables. In their natural state, these foods are nutrient-dense, containing everything the human body needs to thrive. These types of foods should make up 85 percent of a healthy-eating lifestyle. The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables not only produce optimal physical health but also enhance your emotional well-being and sense of contentment. Foods that make up this category include:

  • Raw fruits and vegetables
  • Natural sweets, such as date-nut squares and fruit smoothies
  • Whole grains, including granola, oats, and muesli
  • Beans, including sprouted garbanzos, raw peas, and sprouted lentils

Cooked Starches

Raw fruits and vegetables may well provide the body’s nutrient and fiber needs, but protein is equally important. The cooked starches portion of God’s medicine is also garden-grown but eaten in cooked form as opposed to raw form. Cooked starches provide the needed calorie counts that maintain a healthy weight, along with the protein materials that help build cells and tissues. Cooked grains, beans, sweet potatoes, and homemade soups are just a few foods that fit the bill.

Foods Designed for the Human Body

God has imbued the human body with a natural intelligence that maintains its systems. While medical treatments can deliver positive results, any healing that occurs relies on the body’s self-healing abilities to work. God’s medicine (the natural foods that grow from the earth) is designed to nourish the natural intelligence that maintains the body. Psalm 103:5 says it this way: “ … who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Concept of choice

It’s Our Choice to Make: God’s Medicine vs. Man’s Medicine

Each one of us has the freedom to choose the form of medicine that will sustain our health, and it all boils down to two choices: God’s medicine vs. man’s medicine. God’s medicine sustains wellness. Man’s medicine treats sickness and disease. Revelations 18:24 brings up an important point: “. . . for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.” Interesting enough, the word sorceries comes from the Greek language, meaning pharmacy and pharmaceuticals or drugs. Drugs have become the go-to solutions in man’s medicine, treating sickness and disease, as opposed to supporting the natural intelligence that our bodies hold.

Unfortunately, disease results when we don’t give our bodies the food it should have. In effect, the serpent in the Garden of Eden didn’t just deceive Eve but also used food to do it. Ultimately, the choice between man’s medicine and God’s medicine boils down to watching our bodies struggle with sickness and disease or living long, healthy, vibrant lives.
