At least once or twice every month I make an effort to enjoy a Tex-Mex style dinner, and one of my all-time favorites is, without a doubt, the chicken fajita. It’s the perfect marriage of my favorite things to eat –juicy chicken breasts, hot and spicy seasoning, and a colorful mixture of healthy vegetables. With that being said, I wanted to share my favorite paleo recipe for chicken fajitas with homemade paleo tortillas so you can all enjoy this classic spicy dish as well. The fajita seasoning is made with a mixture of herbs and spices combined with fresh peppers while the tortillas are completely grain-free and delicious.

Healthy Homemade Tortillas and Fajita Seasoning

The very first step to this recipe is making the grain-free tortillas. You’ll be mixing together blanched almond flour, arrowroot flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl. Both almond flour and arrowroot flour are fantastic alternatives to regular refined wheat flour for many types of paleo recipes. Many people are sensitive to wheat products and dietary wheat and cereal grain intake has been well documented to contribute to inflammation in the body. (1) Both almond flour and arrowroot flour are grain-free and combine with the other ingredients to make a perfect tortilla texture.

Fajita Seasoning Tips and Tricks

Once you have your tortillas sorted, it’s time to focus on the fajita seasoning. Take your thickly slices of chicken breast and toss them in a bowl with the garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and lime juice. These ingredients all mesh together perfectly, making a smoking hot spicy fajita seasoning with a slight hint of tanginess as well. The ground cumin and cayenne pepper, in particular, add quite a lot of heat to the mix and they each also provide a hefty amount of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits. (2)(3)

Add Vegetables for Some Fiber and Micronutrients

Once your fajita seasoning is mixed with the chicken, begin cooking it all together in a large skillet. The next step is to begin gradually adding your bell peppers and onion. The red, yellow, and green bell peppers are all loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C (4), in addition to adding even more of a spicy kick to the whole meal. After your chicken and veggies have been cooked, the final step is to carefully cook your tortillas through on both sides and then place them in either a tortilla warmer or use a tea towel to keep them warm.

Once your tortilla shells are finished cooking, you can serve them together along with the chicken fajita mix. I like to also serve my chicken fajita with lime wedges as a backup in case anyone finds them a little bit too spicy. Thanks to the bell peppers and homemade fajita seasoning, this chicken fajita recipe does indeed bring the spicy hot goodness. All in all, it’s a delicious paleo-friendly Tex-Mex option that is low in carbs, high in protein and provides several great health benefits in one tasty package.

This isn’t the only way that I prepare paleo-friendly fajitas either. I usually switch it up every so often to keep my tastebuds guessing. If I’m not cooking chicken, you can bet that I’m probably making paleo steak fajitas. That recipe provides plenty of kick as well! On occasion, if I’m trying to lose a bit of weight, I also like to swap out the tortillas for lettuce wraps instead.

There are several factors which can cause your hair to become thin over time. Hair thickness comes from having an adequate amount of keratin protein, which is made up of amino acids, and held together by hydrogen bonds. When there is a sufficient amount of amino acids, hair is thick, strong, and voluminous.

However, when it lacks these building blocks, the hair weakens and can become thin and frail. Amino acids also produce red blood cells that supply nutrients and oxygen to hair follicles further contributing to the health and thickness of each strand. So whether your hair is becoming thin due to over styling, chemical treatments, or simply aging, adding a supplement such as HAIRFINITY Volume Builder Amino Acid Booster can help replace these hair building nutrients:

Cystine is an amino acid that has been shown to stimulate hair regrowth and fight hair loss while providing strength to the hair shaft. Up to 14% of your hair is made up of this amino acid. Dietary sources of Cystine include chicken, broccoli and milk.

Arginine is one of the most important amino acids for hair growth. It produces nitric oxide, a compound which helps improve blood circulation and the supply of nutrients to the hair follicles. This can help improve the very first stages of hair growth. Dietary sources of Arginine include coconut, sunflower seeds, and fish.

Lysine help reduce the enzyme shown be a prominent factor in male and female pattern baldness. This amino acid can also improve iron absorption to prevent iron deficiency which has been linked to hair loss and excessive hair shedding.

Methionine is a sulphur rich amino acid that helps your body produce the keratin protein which is the main material of the hair shaft. It also helps boost collagen production, another protein that makes up the hair structure. Dietary sources of Methionine include eggs, fish, and sesame seeds.

Taurine acts as a protective shield against the negative effects of TGF-beta, a protein that may cause hair loss. It has also been shown to help increase the hair diameter when taken by women who had fine or thin hair.

You may be eating a healthy and balanced diet! But including foods and supplements that contain these can help boost the growth and health of your hair, and also your overall well-being.
