<h2 style="font-family:BebasNeueRegular, arial, Georgia, serif; font-size:23px;">Apple Cider Vinegar—Nature’s Wonder Drug?</h2>
Apple Cider Vinegar is a popular home remedy.  But did you know that its health benefits date back to Egyptian Urns in 3000 B.C.? The Babylonians as well as Julius Caesar’s army used it to stay healthy and fight off disease. The Greeks and Romans kept vinegar vessels for healing and flavoring. It was used in biblical times as an antiseptic and a healing agent. In Paris in the Middle Ages it was sold from barrels by street vendors as a body deodorant, healing tonic, and delicious drink to keep the body healthy and ageless.
Even Christopher Columbus and crew on their voyage to discover America in 1492 had vinegar barrels for prevention of scurvy as did the U.S. Civil War soldiers.  It helped disinfect and heal their wounds. For centuries in Japan, the samurai warriors drank it for strength and power.
Over thousands of years we have learned that ACV has multi-purposes and a multitude of health benefits.  There is actually a great deal of science behind just how and why ACV seems to be a “cure-all” for so many things. Yes, there is also hype and confusion around what works and what doesn’t work, but all one has to do is look just a little below the surface to uncover the amazing attributes of apples allowed to slowly ferment.
Organic ACV is unpasteurized and contains what is known as “the mother” of vinegar, which makes the vinegar appear somewhat cloudy. Also known as Mycoderma aceti, mother of vinegar is created when acetic acid bacteria and a type of cellulose develop during the fermentation process. Mother of vinegar is harmless, contains health-promoting characteristics such as living nutrients and friendly bacteria, and lets you know that the vinegar is unpasteurized. Most vinegar manufacturers nowadays pasteurize the vinegar before it hits the shelves, to get rid of the mother of vinegar, and in turn, a lot of the nutrients that the vinegar offers.
When choosing an ACV, make sure to select one that is raw, organic and unpasteurized, as the pasteurization process can destroy many of the health benefits. Organic, unpasteurized ACV has a cobweb-looking solid floating inside; as stated earlier, known as mother of vinegar, and is a natural cellulose produced by the vinegar bacteria.
Beneficial Properties – Some of the beneficial properties contained within mother of vinegar include:
Potassium: essential for healthy metabolism, as well as water and chemical balance in the body
Iron: important for blood health
Magnesium: vital to heart health
Enzymes: boost chemical reactions in the body
Malic acid: protects vinegar from viruses, bacteria and fungus
Acetic acid: slows the digestion of starch and inhibits bacterial growth
Calcium: builds strong bones and teeth
Pectin: helps regulate blood pressure and cholesterol
Ash: maintains a healthy alkaline state in the body
Other Minerals, Trace Elements and Vitamins:
<ul>
<li>Chlorine</li>
<li>Copper</li>
<li>Fluorine</li>
<li>Phosphorous</li>
<li>Pro-vitamin beta-carotene</li>
<li>Silicon</li>
<li>Sodium</li>
<li>Vitamin A</li>
<li>Vitamin B1</li>
<li>Vitamin B2</li>
<li>Vitamin B6</li>
<li>Vitamin C</li>
<li>Vitamin E</li>
<li>Vitamin P</li>
</ul>
<h4>More Powerhouse Properties</h4>
Alkalinity: A big reason why ACV is so effective for so many conditions is because it makes the body alkaline, as opposed to acidic. The more acidic your body is, the better the environment for sickness and disease to take hold. Even though ACV is acidic, it has an alkalinizing impact on the body during digestion, unlike other vinegars.
The 3 A’s: ACV contains potent antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties, which help to make it so effective for so many conditions.
Detoxifier: Toxins often accumulate in our bodies, and the malic acid in ACV helps to eliminate these dangerous compounds. By doing so, ACV supports healthy kidney, bladder and liver function.
While there are likely over a hundred different health issues that have responded positively with ACV, here are just a sampling:
<ul style="margin-left:20px;">
<li>Weight loss and fat breakdown</li>
<li>Cancer</li>
<li>Itching</li>
<li>Sore throat</li>
<li>Strengthen bones</li>
<li>Candida</li>
<li>Diabetes</li>
<li>Carpal tunnel syndrome</li>
<li>Blood pressure</li>
<li>Leg cramps</li>
<li>Edema</li>
<li>Allergies</li>
<li>Heart burn</li>
<li>Auto immune illnesses</li>
<li>Constipation</li>
<li>Warts, Callouses, and Corns</li>
</ul>
Since there are so many benefits to consuming ACV daily, we thought we would give you some ideas on how to introduce it into your diet.
<ol style="margin-left:20px;">
<li>Drizzle a teaspoon on top of your salad or mix it with your favorite salad dressing.</li>
<li>Add apple cider vinegar to mayonnaise-based or other vinaigrette-based salads like coleslaw.</li>
<li>Use as a marinade for vegetables.  A vinegar marinade works well mixed with equal parts of olive oil.</li>
<li>Try a delicious mixture of 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar poured over grilled or roasted vegetables. This also works well poured over sautéed vegetables.</li>
<li>If you love popcorn and want a low calorie substitute for butter, fill a spray bottle with apple cider vinegar and finely spray the popcorn and top with a little sea salt or pepper.</li>
<li>You can easily add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to any smoothie, but this one works well! Start by putting 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar into the blender, add a whole banana, 5 chopped strawberries, one tablespoon of honey, 1/2 cup of apple or orange juice, and a handful of leafy greens and blend until smooth.</li>
<li>Start your morning with a 6 or 8-ounce glass of water mixed with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and little honey or lemon. You can also add the vinegar to any juice.</li>
<li>Rinse your fruits and vegetables with vinegar. This adds some vinegar to your diet and also removes harmful bacteria and pesticides.</li>
<li>Mix with ginger and drink to soothe an upset stomach.</li>
<li>Add 1 Tbs. to your workout water to fight lactic acid buildup.</li>
<li>DIY liver tonic—mix ACV with pure, sparkling water.</li>
</ol>
Why haven’t more people been using this incredible supplement? Although it isn’t expensive, and it is easy to find, the truth is, we seem to go for the exotic, expensive supplements when what will help us most is already in our gardens and refrigerators.  We need ACV and it is a natural, wholefood supplement!  I think I am going into the kitchen now to open up a new, unused bottle and make a warm ACV, distilled water and lemon drink and let’s see how I sleep tonight.  With all of the amazing health benefits, we would all be foolish not to go back to this tried and true miracle.  What are some ways that can introduce ACV into your daily diet?

How to Handle Kids in Your Salon

<div style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img alt="Cosmetology continuing education" class="fr-fil fr-dib" height="400" src="https://mediashower.com/img/43FA1D50-2036-11E8-A23E-FD1E00E89941/bigstock-Cheerful-Girl-Hairdresser-Cu-186099970_600x.jpg" style="width: 600px" width="600" />
Children who come along for an appointment at a salon can be bothersome. However, there are things a salon can do to make it easier.
</div>
If you own a salon, you know that maintaining tranquility is sometimes challenging. Clients hope to get away from the stresses of life and spend a little “me” time. The hope to pamper oneself in a quiet environment can be broken by the sound of young voices raised in play.
While children are our pride and joy, salon owners need to learn how to make the salon kid-friendly and maintain tranquility at the same time. Some cosmetology continuing education courses have begun to address this issue, so look for it the next time you register.
Kid’s Services
Allowing children in the salon can be good for both parents and the salon owner. First off, it prevents hard feelings some parents have when they are told the salon is off-limits for children. Secondly, it helps your business grow.
In fact, children’s hair services have blossomed into a $5 billion annual business. So, offering kid’s services, including haircuts, facials, makeup, and even temporary tattoos are all profitable.  It doesn’t cost a lot either, since for most kids you can simply adapt the equipment you have to meet the needs of the younger set. Even if you don’t offer kid’s services, you’ll find that by allowing children in the salon, there may be fewer missed appointments. The latter depends on your clientele.
Have a Child Policy in Place
Whether you provide kid services or not, you need to have a well thought out policy in place. Generally, if people know the rules ahead of time, they are accommodating when things go wrong. The major concern is that some children become unruly while they are in the salon. This is upsetting for your other customers and usually for the parent. You need to be clear that bad behavior will not be tolerated. After laying down the rules, include a list of the things your salon has done to make everyone’s visit enjoyable.
<div style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img alt="Cosmetology continuing education" class="fr-fil fr-dib" height="400" src="https://mediashower.com/img/43FA1D50-2036-11E8-A23E-FD1E00E89941/bigstock--204976432_600x.jpg" style="width: 600px" width="600" />
Offering puzzles, books, or games can make it easier to keep children occupied when they are waiting for their mother or father.
</div>
Day Care
Some spas offer daycare for patrons. This means that you must hire someone to work in the daycare area. This person ideally should have some experience with children. Most salons set an age limit. For instance, bringing babies in the salon and expecting someone to care for them may be too much. In addition, you will need to set up an area or an additional room, if you have it, for this purpose. Filling the area with things kids enjoy such as books aimed at their age group, videos, or games is a must. Most <a href="http://www.nailsmag.com/article/92600/children-in-the-salon-handle-with-care">shops charge</a> a few dollars per hour for the first child and slightly less for the second.
Liability
Liability is a big issue when children are allowed in the salon. Let’s face it, cosmetology services use chemicals and sharp instruments. While it may be difficult to keep children away from them, it is not impossible. It requires extra care such as keeping scissors and solutions in a latched drawer or closet. Even the layout of the salon may be considered hazardous. If there are steps or wet floors, children can fall and hurt themselves.
<div style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img alt="Cosmetology continuing education" class="fr-fil fr-dib" height="400" src="https://mediashower.com/img/43FA1D50-2036-11E8-A23E-FD1E00E89941/bigstock--204729025_600x.jpg" style="width: 600px" width="600" />
For parents who insist on bringing their children, offering limited children’s services can increase a salon’s income potential.
</div>
Attractive Nuisance
There is a doctrine in the law called <a href="http://realestate.findlaw.com/owning-a-home/dangers-to-children-attractive-nuisances.html">attractive nuisance</a>. It is found in property liability law but can apply to anything on the property. It means the object of harm is so attractive that it entices a child. For instance, if you have a solution that is the color of bubble gum on a table a child can reach, it may be considered attractive to the child. You can understand how this could lead to a claim against the salon. It is important to get legal counsel about your liability and how to lessen it. Take time to talk to your insurance agent too.
Cosmetology Continuing Education
Aside from all the decisions salon owners need to make, they must ensure that their requirement for continuing education is met. Busy professionals find it easier to do this online. Imagine not worrying about taking days off to complete the requirement but rather being able to do it piecemeal whenever you have time.
At Beauty Academy, we allow you to download the course material. Once you have finished reading it, you can download the test if one is required in your state. Once you are finished, all you need to do is pay for the course, and download your certificate of completion. Learn more about how continuing education can help you by checking out our <a href="https://beautyce.com/cosmetology-barber-nail-tech/">cosmetology courses.</a>

Natural Sources of Glutathione

<h4>Have you ever taken or experienced any of the following?</h4>
<ul>
<li>Prescription drugs</li>
<li>Radiation-based diagnostic or therapy measures</li>
<li>Immunization shots</li>
<li>Antibiotics</li>
<li>Over the counter drugs</li>
<li>Still have, or had, silver-mercury amalgam fillings in your mouth</li>
<li>Been exposed to house, farm or commercial use herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or cleaning fluids</li>
<li>Used non-organic cosmetics, shampoos, lotions, sunscreens, or toothpastes (the ones with poison control warnings on the label!)</li>
<li>Been exposed to work related chemicals or radiation</li>
<li>Have been in the military</li>
<li>Lived near nuclear power plants, munitions manufacturing plants, chemical manufacturing plants, or toxic waste disposal sites</li>
<li>Use commercial airlines</li>
</ul>
If one or more of these apply to you, then you need to ensure you are consuming glutathione supportive foods daily.
<h4>The Role of Glutathione in the Body</h4>
Glutathione is the body’s master antioxidant and detoxifier. Foods that boost glutathione levels can help the body rid itself of heavy metals, chemicals and other toxic substances.
Glutathione plays at least eight fundamental roles in metabolic and biochemical reactions including:
<ol>
<li>DNA synthesis and repair</li>
<li>Protein synthesis</li>
<li>Prostaglandin synthesis (controls vascular smooth muscle constriction or dilation and many other vital functions)</li>
<li>Amino acid transport and enzyme activation</li>
<li>Maintaining other antioxidants like Vitamin C and E in their active forms</li>
<li>Modulating (regulating) proper immune response</li>
<li>Increasing lymphocyte presence (T cells, B cells and Natural Killer Cells) while improving their effectiveness</li>
<li>Regulating apoptosis (the death of cells that occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organism’s growth or development.)</li>
</ol>
Thus, every system in the body can be affected by the level of glutathione, especially the immune system, the nervous system, the gastrointestinal system and the lungs.
In animal experiments, increased glutathione consumption increased longevity by about 40%.
The more toxic the body is, however, the faster glutathione levels in the body are used up.
As an example, in experimental animals, glutathione was reduced 70 to 80% within four hours after administering acetaminophen (Tylenol). – Drug Chem Toxicol 81;4(1):37-48. A similar conclusion can be drawn regarding all other pharmaceutical drug-based therapies.
<h4>Glutathione Supportive Foods Help Detoxify the Body</h4>
A steady, daily intake of glutathione supportive foods is the best way to maintain high levels of glutathione in the body and chip away at the stockpile of toxins that have accumulated over the years (and you continue to take in daily).
Food sources that increase glutathione do so by providing the precursors of glutathione, or enhance its production by some other means.
The amount of dietary glutathione is very small compared to the amount of glutathione found in live tissues.
Daily glutathione intake from glutathione foods averages 100-150 mg. A healthy adult has about 10g of glutathione circulating in the body tissues. Thus, dietary intake comprises only 1-1.5% of circulating GSH. The rest of glutathione is manufactured inside the cell, or within the liver, from its three precursor amino acids: Glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine.
Although dietary glutathione has low impact on glutathione levels, glutathione foods are still an integral part of a glutathione boosting protocol.
The main reason is that some dietary glutathione does get absorbed into the cells of the intestines, particularly the inside space of the intestines’ tubular structure. This luminal glutathione participates directly in detoxification in the small intestine boosting the health of the digestive system.
Since your immune health depends greatly on how effectively you absorb all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals from food, we can confidently state that immune health depends on the health of the intestines and the whole GI tract.
Also, studies have shown that glutathione foods decreased the risk of getting mouth cancer (Dietary glutathione intake and the risk of mouth and pharyngeal cancer. Flagg EW et al. Am J Epid. 1994. 139(5), 453-465) and prevented renal and neuronal dysfunctions induced by oxidative stress in diabetic rats (Dietary glutathione protects rats from diabetic neuropathy and neuropathy. Ueno Y et al. J Nutr. 2002. 132, 897-900).
Foods that are high in glutathione precursors and therefore help boost glutathione levels naturally are best when eaten raw or fermented (like in sauerkraut) since they are heat sensitive.
Cooking reduces glutathione content in foods, so do the length and conditions of storage and farming practices. Only uncooked raw vegetables, fruit, raw unpasteurized goat milk are rich in glutathione. Cooked, pasteurized and processed foods contain far less glutathione or none at all.
For example, one study showed 73-80.6% reduction in glutathione content of human breast milk after merely 2 hours of being frozen (80.6%), refrigerated (79.1%) or kept at room temperature (73%) for later use as food for infants. This is a significant drop compared to fresh un-stored breast milk, considering the fact that breast milk is the only source of glutathione for newborns and babies as they do not yet produce much on their own (Human breast milk storage and the glutathione content. Ankrah NA  et al. J Trop Pediatr. 2000 Apr;46(2):111-3).

<h4>Foods That Stimulate Glutathione Production</h4>
Certain chemicals (found in foods and spices are known to contribute to glutathione production in the body, assist in recycling oxidized glutathione back to its reduced (non-oxidized) form, and also boost the synthesis and the activity of important glutathione enzymes – glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione S-transferase (GST).
<h4>Food Sources of Glutathione Precursors Include the Following:</h4>
<ul>
<li>Milk thistle helps to prevent glutathione depletion in the liver. It is also a natural liver detoxifier and liver protectant.</li>
<li>Asparagus is the highest plant-based source of glutathione.</li>
<li>Okra is also naturally high and assists in the elimination of the mucoid plaque in the small intestines.</li>
<li>Rice bran, high in Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) promotes the synthesis of glutathione in the body.</li>
<li>Several spices found in Indian curry including turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, black seeds (black cumin), and curcumin contain glutathione.</li>
<li>Rosemary</li>
<li>The sulfur containing vegetables (kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, onions, garlic, cauliflower, bok choy, watercress, mustard, horseradish, turnips, rutabagas, kohlrabi) assist in the making of glutathione in the body (glutathione is a sulfur containing molecule).</li>
<li>Pink Sulfur Salt(Black Salt)</li>
<li>Grape seed extract</li>
<li>Bilberry</li>
<li>Avocados</li>
<li>Ripe seeds of the green bean</li>
<li>Red beets</li>
<li>Aloe Vera</li>
<li>Peaches, and watermelon</li>
<li>Goat whey protein powder (Raw)</li>
<li>Pycnogenol from pine bark.</li>
<li>Brazil nuts – the highest natural source of selenium. Selenium is a co-factor for the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. (1-2 Brazil nuts per day – no more).</li>
<li>Spinach</li>
<li>Parsley</li>
</ul>
If you want to get the most glutathione out of raw, uncooked foods be sure your gut is healthy.  If that means you must take a daily probiotic or even change your diet to eliminate candida, then work on your gut so you can maximize your glutathione potential. This major antioxidant is a primary necessity for your body to maintain vibrant health.
